Amplifying Collaborative Efforts for Job Creation: Insights from the Lagos State Employment Summit

Earlier today, I had the honor of delivering a goodwill message at the Lagos State Employment Summit, held at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites on Victoria Island, Lagos. The summit, themed “Amplifying the Collaborative Roles of Private and Public Sectors for Job Creation,” brought together key stakeholders from various sectors to discuss strategies for addressing unemployment and fostering job creation in Nigeria.

Harnessing Local Resources for Job Creation

In my address, I charged stakeholders in Nigeria’s employment market to look inward and harness resources across local communities to generate jobs for our teeming youth. The untapped potential within our local communities holds the key to creating sustainable employment opportunities. By focusing on local resources, we can drive economic growth from the grassroots level, ensuring that every community contributes to and benefits from national development.

Showcasing Federal Ministry of Youth Development Initiatives

The event, organized by the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), provided a platform to discuss some of the job creation initiatives spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development. Among these initiatives is our commitment to refining the employability skills of our young people through the “1 Youth, 2 Skills” program. This initiative aims to equip each young Nigerian with two marketable skills, enhancing their chances of securing meaningful employment and contributing to the economy.

The Power of Public-Private Collaboration

A key highlight of my message was the emphasis on the need for cooperation among stakeholders in both the public and private sectors to drive employment generation. I reiterated the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is a firm believer in the immense accomplishments that public-private collaborations can deliver. His mandate to ministers is clear: embrace partnerships as an effective means of delivering government programs and initiatives.

"President Tinubu is a firm believer in the huge accomplishments that public-private collaborations could deliver," I noted. This belief is the driving force behind our efforts to foster partnerships that leverage the strengths and resources of both sectors, creating a more robust and dynamic job market.

Moving Forward: A Call to Action

The Lagos State Employment Summit underscored the importance of collective action in tackling unemployment. It is not enough for the government alone to shoulder this responsibility; the private sector must also play a pivotal role. By working together, we can create a conducive environment for businesses to thrive, which in turn generates jobs and drives economic growth.

I urge all stakeholders to continue exploring innovative ways to collaborate and harness local resources for job creation. Let us build on the momentum of this summit and translate our discussions into actionable strategies that will make a tangible difference in the lives of our youth.

Conclusion

The Lagos State Employment Summit was a resounding success, highlighting the critical role of collaboration in job creation. As we move forward, let us remain committed to fostering partnerships that harness the potential of our local communities and drive sustainable economic growth. Together, we can create a brighter future for our youth, providing them with the opportunities they need to succeed and contribute to Nigeria’s development.
